The first thing to consider when you decide on new canvas for your boat is what you'd like to do. Here is a brief breakdown of different types of canvas applications:
Tops:
» Bimini Top - A canvas top supported by a frame that can be made of either aluminium or stainless steel. We custom fabricate the frame to fit your boat exactly the way it should. The frame can have three or four bows and can even be made in two pieces to accommodate special circumstances usually found only on sail boats (placement of winches, for example). Our biminis come with zippered pockets to ease the process of taking it on and off the frame. They are generally produced with Sunbrella and do well to add shade to your boat. This is widely considered a "must-have" by boaters in the Florida Sun.
» Dodger - These are tops that sit in front of the bimini on a sailboat and cover the entrance way to inside the cabin. They come in two varieties: the standard dodger which has the windows attached permanently and the California style in which the windows can be removed via zippers.
» Spray Hood - These are the powerboat's answer to the dodger. They are attached to the front of the boat, usually covering a bow cushion and offering a spot of protection from both spray and sun. They can even have an enclosing piece of material added to allow for extra storage space.
» Navy Top - Similar to a bimini top, only it connects to the top of the windshield.
» T-Top - This top fits on a T Tower (we do not fabricate these) via rope. We lash our T-Tops until they are tight as a drum to prevent water collection. They are generally made of Sunbrella.
» Sun Shades - These tops are secondary tops that usually cover the back of a boat left out by the bimini. They can be attached to the bimini via an optional connector piece to create a seamless looking top from the front of the bimini to the back of your boat. They are supported by a frame similar to those that support biminis. They are generally made from Sunbrella.
Boat Covers:
» Full Boat Covers - These covers are made to protect your entire boat, down to the rub rail. They are made with a draw string that sits just below the rub rail and cinches together at a tie-off point that is determined based on the specific job to allow the owner to tie the cover from their dock. They can be made with vents to allow for ventilation but these are not necessary. They are reinforced at points susceptible to wear. These covers are usually made from Sunbrella.
» Cockpit Cover - These covers fit from the windshield (either at the base or at the top) and reach to the back of the boat, usually a bit above the rub rail. They are fastened with snaps placed on average every nine inches around the boat. Vents can be added if desired. They are reinforced at points susceptible to wear. These covers are usually made from Sunbrella.
Smaller Covers:
» Instrument Covers - These are pieces of canvas designed to fit over a boat's instrument panel. They can include the steering wheel or go around it. Instrument covers are generally attached via snaps are generally made from Sunbrella.
» Hatch Covers - These are small covers made to fit over a boat's hatch. They are generally attached via snaps or cinched down with a draw string and are generally made from Sunbrella.
» Aft Covers - These can attach at several places, the back of a bimini, the back of a hard top or a radar arch. They come down to slight above the rub rail on the sides back to the back of the boat and are attached with snaps.
» The "Wrap-Around" - This new style of cover has become increasing popular among boat owners with a T-top. The Wrap-Around attaches along the perimeter of the T-top with straps and hangs down to the floor. This covers the entire center console, including any cushions attached to the front of it, as well as the leaning post.
» Other Misc. Covers - We can create custom covers to provide protection for any application you might have. We do engine, binnacle, single instrument, seat, light, leaning post, TV and grill covers, just to name a few. If it's exposed, we can cover it. Contact us with a description of your situation and we can work something out!
Enclosures:
» Standard Enclosures - We can protect you from the elements with a camper enclosure made from isinglass. The windows will attach to your bimini and attach around your windshield, generally with snaps. Enclosures can also be fabricated to attach to a sunshade and enclose the entire boat covered by a top. Optional features such as U-Zips, for ventilation, and screens to keep insects out when U-Zips are open, can be added to give your enclosure maximum utility. Windows can also be double-faced to give the inside a cleaner look.
» T-Top Enclosures - These windows attach to the tower of a center console boat and come in three pieces, one for the front and one for each side. Additionally, "wings" can be added that attach from the back of the side windows and extend to the gunnel of the boat. This helps reduce spray felt by the captain during rough seas.
